Swaps!

FABRIC POSTCARD SWAP

WHAT: A Fabric Postcard Swap (Don't worry, they are fun and easy to make…and especially fun to receive!)

WHEN: Due at the August 8th Guild Meeting

QUANTITY: Make 12 - 4" x 6" postcards, with no more than six just alike. (They can all be different if you want.)

SWAPPING: You turn in your 12 postcards. I will write the other swapper's mailing addresses on them and mail them out over a period of two weeks. You will receive 12 different postcards in the mail.

Contact person: Send email to:joan.lush@comcast.net>

WHAT TO DO: BE SURE TO:

  • 1. Put a self-adhesive, 37 cent stamp on the back.
  • 2. Things to write on the back:
  • a. Your return address
    b. A brief message with your signature.
    c. Be sure to leave a space for me to write someone's mailing address in.

    HOW TO MAKE POSTCARDS:

  • Supplies:
  • 1/3 to 3/8 yd. - Fast 2 Fuse (Quilt Country has it.)
  • Misc. fabric scraps and Thread to compliment your fabric (variegated is fun.)
  • 12 - 4" x 6" rectangles of light fabric for the backs.
  • Optional: fusible web for multiple layers of fabric, embellishments like fabric glitter, decorative yarns, small beads, rubber stamps & ink, etc.

    Instructions:/b>

  • 1) Cut the Fast 2 Fuse into 4" x 6" squares.
  • 2) Cut fabric into desired shapes and arrange on postcard. When front of postcard is covered, press it with an iron. (The back of the Fast 2 Fuse is also fusible so use an appliqué pressing sheet or something to protect your ironing board.)
  • 3) Layer any other fabric shapes that you like on top of the postcard, then machine stitch around the shapes to hold them down.
  • 4) Fuse the light colored, 4" x 6" piece of fabric to the back.
  • 5) Stitch all around the edge of the postcard to hold the whole thing together. (Try some of those decorative stitches on your sewing machine or just use a zig zag or satin stitch.)
  • 6) Embellish…decorative fibers and small beads seem to go through the mail fine. Be careful about anything that sticks out too far or it may get damaged. (Depending on what embellishments you use, you may want to put them on before you fuse the back on.)

DEMO & SIGN-UP: There will be a postcard-making-demonstration at the June meeting as well as a sign-up sheet to participate.
