UBoM!

Unfinished Block of the Month Challenge

(UBoM!)

This is a challenge for all you who have ever participated in a quilt store block-of-the-month program, a mail order block-of-the-month, or any sort of “calendar” type project. How many of you have 11 blocks done because you had to have it in order to get the next months block – but you never finished #12 because you didn’t have to take it back?  Where is that “Sunbonnet Sue through the Year” project you started?  And what about that project from the class you took for 12 months?  Who knows what’s lurking in a box in your closet?  YOU DO, and you’ve been feeling guilty about the fact that it’s still in the box after all this time (perhaps years).  UBoM is the challenge for you!

 Here are the rules!

 1.         Bring your UBoM’s to the guild meeting in either February or March.  We will take a picture of your items and you’ll fill out an entry form listing your items.

(Note:  Bring one to twenty UBoM’s – you are not required to finish all of them, but you cannot earn points for any item that isn’t on your original list!)

 2.         Complete the series of blocks and set them to make a completed quilt top or wall  hanging.

 3.         Show the top or finished item at any guild meeting starting in March and ending          in December.  A wall hanging or larger top does not have to be quilted to earn points, but you will receive additional points for a completed and bound product.

 4.         Earn points toward the prize drawing at the end of the challenge.  Your name is entered in the drawing as many times as you have earned points.

5.         Points are earned in the following way:

.5 point per block for a completed top: pieced or machine appliquéd blocks;                                   maximum of 6 points

.75 point per block for a completed top: mixed technique blocks (pieced and                                  hand embellished); maximum of 9 points

1 point per block for a completed top: hand appliquéd, hand embroidered, or                                 hand pieced blocks (such as English paper pieced); maximum of 12                                   points

2 additional points available for a quilted and bound wall hanging project (up to                          36” on any side)

3 additional points available for a quilted and bound lap size or larger project                                (larger than 36” on a side)

6.         Prize:  $50.00 gift certificate from Quilt Country.
