Activities from A to Z
(and then some)

    Anniversary Quilt:
    Quilt blocks made by members for the tenth anniversary of the guild, put together by a committee and quilted by various members of the guild.

    Address Book:
    Address information, names, addresses, e-mail addresses, etc. for use by members.

    Bees:
    Groups of members interested in piecing and/or quilting at specified times during the month. Groups are small and meet in homes or other available meeting rooms.

    Border Bash:
    Four or five quilters who each make a center block and then pass it to the other members of the group to add borders. Each member of the group ends up with her center with delightful borders ready to be quilted.

    Block of the Month:
    A pattern is given in the newsletter, members make it in their choice of colors ending up with enough blocks to make a quilt.

    Challenge:
    A committee issues a challenge for members to make a block or a quilt using certain criteria (certain colors, patterns, etc.). Challenge pieces are then hung and members vote on which ones should win (usually a ribbon).

    Community Service Projects:
    Activities to help those in need. Quilts for Friends of the Family (battered women's shelter), and other charities.

    Donation Quilt:
    See Raffle Quilts

    Door Prize Committee:
    Members who solicit gifts from shops to give as door prizes at meetings. Members also give prizes as they make something or have something they want to donate.

    Door Prizes:
    Members sign in at each guild meeting giving you a chance to win a prize donated by local quilt shops and members.

    Dues:
    Annual Membership Dues. Senior and Junior Discounts.

    Elections:
    Voting by members to elect officers for the year.

    Eternal Stitchers:
    Bee

    Fabric Swap:
    An announcement is made regarding type, size, color of fabric to be exchanged. Members bring the specified number of pieces and a committee then puts one from each pile into your bag. To get you must give! It's a good way to get a variety of fabric for your stash (collection).

    Fat Quarter Jackpot:
    You bring specified fat quarters and one lucky person takes them all home (sometimes there is enough for several winners).

    Fundraisers
    The things you gotta do!

    Garage Sales:
    Members bring unwanted quilting supplies and sell, barter, or give them away. Homemade items are also allowed. Money is yours. Remember, one quilter's junque is another quilter's treasure.

    General Store:
    Guild items such as t-shirts, tote bags, club pins, stationery are for sale at the meeting.

    Guests:
    Visitors who may attend two meetings free before joining.

    Historian:
    One who keeps newspaper articles, takes pictures, keeps an album with all such materials in it.

    Hard Block of the Month:
    Anyone wanting to improve their piecing can join this group. A pattern or a block is distributed each month and the members try to find an easy way to piece it together. After a specified time, members put their blocks together and let the guild see how well they've done.

    Hospitality:
    Group overseeing parties during the year, welcoming visitors and members at meetings, sending cards as needed.

    I Found it on the Internet:
    Address to interesting internet sites.

    I Spy Exchange:
    Exchange of fabric containing some interesting small objects such as hats, shoes, people, animals, etc.

    July's Patriotic Jamboree and Guild's Birthday Party!:
    Potluck dinner on guild night with red, white, and blue theme, quilts and so on.

    July's Ornament Exchange:
    Christmas in July with members making or buying an ornament to exchange with others.

    Kid's Quilts:
    Community Service project.

    Library:
    Books owned by the guild for members use.

    Membership Dues:
    Dues are paid in September each year to help finance the newsletter.

    Mystery Quilt:
    Pattern given over several months. Members make their blocks in their choice of colors. The final month you are given directions on how to put the block together. Mega fun!

    Material Girls:
    Bee

    Name tags:
    A must for each member. It makes getting acquainted much easier. If you can, make one. If you don't wear one, you get to put a quarter in the treasury for a paper one!

    Nominating Committee:
    A chosen committee designed to find willing (?) members to run for office.

    New Member Packet:
    Information on the guild given to new members.

    Newsletter:
    Fantastic mail you receive once a month to inform you of what's gone on, going on, or hopes to go on.

    Ornament Exchange:
    Members making or buying an ornament to exchange with others.

    Overachievers:
    Bee

    Programs:
    Speakers are outsiders or members, who bring wisdom, ideas, and show and tell to a guild meeting.

    Quilt Shows:
    Place to go for new ideas or a new twist to an old idea.

    Quilt Shops in the Area
    There are over 20 quilt shops in our general area.

    Raffle Quilt:
    Quilt made by members during the year. We then sell tickets and pick a winning ticket. Some lucky person can claim the quilt for their very own..

    Retreat:
    A gathering of quilters at a motel, hotel, church campgrounds, or wherever for a long weekend of uninterrupted quilting, piecing, eating, gabbing...sleeping is optional.

    Road Trips:
    Quilt shop hopping by whoever can go!

    Round Robin:
    A group of usually a dozen. Each member chooses a block pattern and gives it to the other members during her month. Each gal makes the block and gives it to the lucky person of the month. Over the year each one should get eleven blocks plus her own during her month.

    Special Fabric Exchange:
    See fabric exchange.

    Speakers:
    See programs.

    Show & Tell:
    A great treat to one and all. Members are all encouraged to bring whatever they make - blocks, quilt top or completed quilt. Everyone enjoys seeing what has been done and loves getting new ideas. Good, bad, or indifferent - we love to see it all.

    Sign-In:
    Write your name on the sheet as you come to the meeting. It helps us to tell how many are there and lets us know about guests and new members.

    Show Offs:
    A member who volunteers to show guests and new members where everything is and sits with them to answer their questions during the meeting.

    Swaps:
    Theme based multiple fabric swaps.

    TAQG:
    Texas Association of Quilt Guilds

    Tea:
    A tea given for new members to welcome them to the guild.

    UFO's:
    Unfinished Objects. Certainly no one in this guild has any of these!

    VIP's:
    Officers and anyone else who has a job in the guild.

    Volunteers:
    Someone willing to donate some of their precious time for guild business.

    Workshops:
    A class given to teach a new technique, a new pattern, a way of quilting, etc. Most require a fee.

    Xmas Party:
    December meeting is a potluck dinner, ornament exchange or whatever the committee decides.

    Yearly Tonic:
    Pleasure derived from attending meetings and seeing friends.

    Zero:
    Money you have left in your wallet after a road trip!
